The Davidson County Election Commission will hold hands-on demonstrations of new voting equipment, beginning Monday, June 3. The new technology supports a voter-verified paper audit trail, and will be put into service during the August 1 Metropolitan General Election.
“We are anxious to introduce our new state-of-the-art equipment to voters,” said Jeff Roberts, administrator of elections. “While the new ballot marking devices are very similar to our old voting machines, we want voters to have an opportunity to practice, so they will know what to expect in our next election.”
“The most noticeable change will be the paper ballot,” continued Roberts. “Voters will insert a blank ballot into the ballot marking device and then make their selections on a touch screen. After printing their marked paper ballot, they will review their selections and proceed to a secure scanner to cast their vote.”
Demonstrations are scheduled at neighborhood libraries across Davidson County, where participants will receive firsthand experience using the new equipment. Election officials will be on hand for guidance and questions.
