Information and Resources Provided for August 6 Election
The Davidson County Election Commission has compiled a list of tips for voting amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which households should begin receiving this week. The list offers choices for voters to consider so they may prepare for their preferred method of voting in the upcoming August 6 State and Federal Primary, County General, and Oak Hill Municipal Election.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way all of us operate on a day-to-day basis, and we know our voters are thinking about how they will cast their ballots in upcoming elections,” said Jeff Roberts, Davidson County administrator of elections. “We want them to understand all their options and have information and resources readily available, so they may choose the safest, most convenient voting method for their particular situation.”
The tips are as follows:
- Follow guidelines issued by health officials, including safe practices when in a public setting.
- Consider voting by mail (Absentee Ballot Application included in the mailing and available at nashville.gov/vote).
Ballots will be mailed beginning the second week in June.
- Update your address online at GoVoteTN before going to the polls, to shorten your in-person voting experience.
- Consider Early Voting, when voter crowds may be smaller and you can choose when and where to vote.
- Consider voting mid-morning or mid-afternoon, when voter crowds may be smaller.
- Use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting the polling location.
- Know Before You Go! – Review the Sample Ballot and decide how you will vote before entering the polling location.
- Use your own personal pen to sign documents, if preferred.
- Remember: In order to maintain social distancing, a limited number of people will be allowed inside the polling location.
- Be patient. We’re all in this together.
“If voting by mail is preferred, eligible voters will need to complete an Absentee Ballot Application, included in the mailing and found online at www.nashville.gov/vote,” explained Roberts. “Requests for Absentee Ballots can be accepted May 8 – July 30. We encourage sending them as soon as possible, in order to provide ample time for processing.”
“For voters who would rather cast their ballot in person, Early Voting may offer the opportunity to avoid Election Day crowds and shorten wait times,” continued Roberts. “The Early Voting schedule has been expanded, due to the pandemic. All 11 locations will be open from July 17 – August 1, in an effort to make it easier to practice social distancing. With no assigned voting locations, evening and Saturday hours, Early Voting provides a lot of flexibility.”
Davidson County voters who have moved within the county since they last voted are encouraged to update their address online at GoVoteTN, a safe, secure site where they may also submit a name change due to marriage or divorce. “Handling address and name changes before going to the polls is yet another way you can shorten your in-person voting experience,” said Roberts.
“Our staff continues to prepare for upcoming elections, while following directives from the Metro Health Department and Mayor Cooper to slow the spread of COVID-19,” added Roberts. “We will persist in our efforts to conduct safe and fair elections and look forward to all eligible Davidson County citizens participating in the election process.”
