The Nashville Department of Emergency Communications (DEC) has earned recertification for its training program through the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO).
The recertification followed a thorough review of DEC’s curriculum, training materials, policies, procedures, and instructor qualifications. It also assessed how DEC adapts its training to emerging technologies and industry best practices.
“Nashville DEC’s recertification demonstrates our commitment to training telecommunicators who handle emergencies with professionalism and expertise,” said Patrice Coleman, Assistant Director for DEC.
DEC takes pride in its training program, instructors, and communications training officers. In 2024, the DEC Training Division provided over 26,973 hours of in-house instruction to its personnel, reflecting the department’s ongoing commitment to education and professional development.
Nashville DEC will be recognized for this achievement at the APCO International Conference in Baltimore, MD, this summer.
What is the APCO International Agency Training Program Certification?
Public safety agencies use the APCO International Agency Training Program Certification (ATPC) to confirm that their training programs meet the APCO American National Standards (ANS). These standards ensure that initial and ongoing training for public safety telecommunicators keeps pace with an expanding and rapidly changing environment.
