The mission of the Metro Human Relations Commission is to protect and promote the personal dignity, peace, safety, security, health, and general welfare of all people in Nashville and Davidson County. The Commission’s work is organized around a theme of “One City for All People.” This motto guides all Metro Human Relations education, training, advocacy, and compliance services.
Internship Opportunities
Positions are available during the summer, fall, and spring semesters. Students must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week up to a maximum of 19 hours per week. Internship positions are paid ($25/hour) and students are encouraged to receive course credit for their experience.
Areas of focus for internship opportunities will vary but may include:
- Provision of Municipal Services (Title VI)
- Employment
- Criminal Justice
- Health
- Education
- Economic Policies
- Civic Engagement
- Housing
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research and data gathering on human rights, discrimination, population trends, and other human relations-related issues
- Schedule, set up, and attend meetings
- Write reports
- General administrative duties
- Provide assistance with other Commission-related projects as necessary
Qualifications
- Detail oriented
- Ability to organize efficiently
- Advanced written and oral communication skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel
- Self-motivated; positive attitude; willing to learn
- Data analysis skills a plus
