As Music City celebrated America’s Birthday, the dedicated personnel at the Nashville Department of Emergency Communications (DEC) worked diligently to answer calls, dispatch resources and manage incidents.
Before the festivities kicked off, the DEC issued a public service announcement on social media reminding everyone that 911 is for emergency situations, and not nuisances.
In total, the DEC received 375 firework related calls. Approximately 63% of these calls relating to fireworks were reported through non-emergency platforms including hubNashville and 311.
James Matthews, Public Information Officer for the Nashville Department of Emergency Communications, provided the following statement:
“By using these options to appropriately report non-emergency and nuisance situations, 911 lines remained open for life-or-death emergencies. This played a big part in the DEC exceeding national standards during this period, answering all 911 calls received within 15-seconds.”
