The Bellevue Ice and Community Center is the Department of General Services' first building certified under the new, more stringent LEED® v4 standards. The facility earned LEED® Silver, due to its energy and water efficient construction and operation, smart choices about materials and resources, and rooftop solar array, among many other features. Scroll down to explore all the green features of this facility, and also to watch a video about it!
What makes LEED® v4 different? LEED® v4 ensures that buildings that achieve its prestigious certification live up to high standards of sustainability. For example, in the older version of the standard, projects would receive a LEED® point for simply placing a bike rack at the building site. In the new, v4 standard, one must also ensure that the building is accessible by bicycle, so that the rack can actually be put to use!
The Department of General Services now constructs all its new city facilities to at least LEED® Silver, and, within the Urban Services District, to LEED® Gold or higher. Bellevue Ice and Community Center joins more than two dozen other LEED® certified buildings constructed by the Department of General Services. These buildings – from libraries and community centers, to police and fire stations, to office buildings – serve to inform, entertain, protect, and serve Nashvillians. Achieving LEED® certification ensures that these facilities serve their purpose in a way that also helps protect natural resources and the environment.
