Please read carefully if your parcel contains and existing residence on a septic system.
Based on State of Tennessee Regulations, the septic system serving a residence must be completely contained within its property - with specific setbacks. Each property should also have sufficient area within the parcel to replace the existing septic system in the event of a failure.
If you are planning to make revisions to your property boundaries, care must be taken to ensure compliance with the applicable setbacks and to ensure that the parcel will contain sufficient area for replacement.
On occasion, failure to comply with these requirements leads to significant problems for current or future owners. On very rare occasions, a residence may be condemned.
Although it is the owner’s responsibility to comply with these requirements, the Metro Public Health Department will assist you in determining an acceptable location of the revised property boundaries.
