As the end of year holidays draw nearer, Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) encourages our community to consider welcoming a foster pet into their home. Currently, Metro Animal Care and Control has more than 60 dogs available for foster or adoption, with many others temporarily housed at Metro Animal Care and Control while their homes are located. Metro Animal Care and Control will be closed Saturday, December 24, Sunday December 25 and Sunday, January 1 in observance of Metro Nashville holidays, making a foster home a particularly good option for available pets. Metro Animal Care and Control will be offering extended hours to ensure those who would like to adopt or foster a pet can do so prior to holiday closures.
Foster care has been found to be a better alternative to the shelter for many pets. Pets in foster care are in a less stressful environment. Animals in foster care are better able to show what makes them unique, giving adoptive families more information to decide on which animal to adopt. Foster care also frees up space at the shelter, allowing Metro Animal Care and Control to ensure that shelter and services are available to lost and surrendered animals that enter daily. Fostering is also a good way for community members to learn if a pet is a good fit for their families.
Foster pets can be picked up the week of December 20-23 and can stay in foster care until January 2. All supplies and medical care are provided by Metro Animal Care and Control. Those who are interested in volunteering to host a foster pet can begin by filling out a foster application. The public is also invited to stop by the shelter during open hours to speak with a staff member about fostering and meet with available foster pets.
For those ready to adopt, Metro Animal Care and Control has many good options to welcome into a loving home. All pets adopted at Metro Animal Care and Control are spayed/neutered, microchipped and started on initial vaccinations. Metro Animal Care and Control invites the public to come to the shelter during their open hours to browse available pets. The shelter is open from noon to 4 p.m. each day, excluding holidays. Adoption counselors are available to discuss what kinds of pets might fit best in a home looking to adopt a pet. Metro Animal Care and Control will continue to announce special promotions to encourage those who are ready to adopt to consider doing so through Metro Animal Care and Control.
