Note: Surrendering your animal to Metro Animal Care and Control does not guarantee your animal will be placed into our adoption program. Assessments of your animals behavior and medical condition will be discussed at appointment and it is the decision of Metro Animal Care and Control to do what is best, once the animal is surrendered over and is property of Metro Animal Care and Control.
With continued efforts and success to not euthanize based on space, unfortunately Metro Animal Care and Control is always over capacity with increasing intake numbers. Therefore, we cannot accept walk-in or drop offs; owner surrenders are admitted by appointment only. If you can no longer care for your pet, have attempted to rehome your pet on your own and would like to discuss surrendering to Metro Animal Care and Control, please follow the steps for our admissions process:

To make an appointment, please call our Pet Safety Net team at 615-862-4017 or email [email protected] and leave a message with your information. Appointments are made based on the order they were received. A Counselor will conduct a brief consultation and collect some information from you about the pet you are looking at surrendering.
Prepare for the appointment
Gather proof of your pets veterinary history, medical records and any medications it may be taking.
At the appointment
Appointments usually take 30 minutes. Please bring the following things with you:
- Pet (Cats must be in a carrier; dogs must be leashed)
- Past veterinary records
- Medications the pet is taking
- Current ID showing Davidson County residence
