A potential project under consideration will improve access to the Sadler Village neighborhood. In follow-up to recent community meetings, we are requesting your input on three potential alternative solutions.
Information on potential solutions has been provided to the community previously in other formats (through fliers and neighborhood meetings), and recently a notice was mailed to property owners to ensure that all members of the community are reached, including those that may be directly impacted by one of the potential alternatives. We welcome your feedback so that Metro can proceed further with project development.
Access to 43 homes in this neighborhood is limited to a single at-grade railroad crossing that is frequently blocked by trains that are being assembled in Radnor Rail Yards, located less than a mile to the south. Given the safety and quality of life issues raised by the single entrance, Councilmember Colby Sledge, the Mayor’s Office, and Metro Departments have been working with neighbors to identify and evaluate potential solutions to address neighborhood concerns.
Councilmember Sledge hosted meetings in October and November of 2020 to discuss the railroad crossing and access to the neighborhood. Preliminary discussions have included options for the construction of a bridge to provide unrestricted pedestrian and vehicular access to the area. Based on a technical evaluation of options, three bridge alternatives have been identified:
- Option 1 – A bridge over the railroad tracks would connect Sadler Avenue to Caden Avenue to the east directly.
- Option 2 – A bridge across the railroad tracks would connect Sadler Avenue to Caden Avenue by connecting through a large property along the south side of Caden Avenue.
- Option 3 – A bridge across the railroad tracks would connect Sadler Court to Leafland Avenue and Oakland Street to the south.
