City of Houston/Harris County Homeless Encampment Response Strategy
Housing and Urban Development will be facilitating an in-person workshop with homeless providers, people with lived experience, and stakeholders who are invested in creating an encampment strategy that focuses on providing the unsheltered in Nashville an access to an array of housing choices and services options, in the event that an encampment has been deemed for closure. While they do not recommend encampment closures without sufficient permanent housing resources, there may be instances when a decision is made outside of the recommendation of the Homelessness Planning Council which will displace those living in the encampments. Participants wanting to participate in the workshop will need to become familiar with the attached document and the information in the following links prior to the workshop:
- Understanding Encampments of People Experiencing Homelessness and Community Responses
- Exploring Homelessness Among People Living in Encampments and Associated Cost
Participants should come prepared to offer suggestions on developing a set of standards focusing on outreach, engagement, and connection to housing with services, when the community learns of an encampment that will be closed.
The workshops will take place on Monday March 14, 2022 and Tuesday March 15, 2022. While we know there will be a big interest in participating in the workshop we are looking at limiting the number of participants to 25 people, with a preference for those with lived experience/expertise and adhering to the components of racial equity.
Please respond to Melissa Mikel at [email protected] by close of business on Monday March 6, 2022 if you are interested in participating. Selected participants will be notified by Wednesday March 9, 2022 with a calendar invite and location details.
