There are several resources available to help offer relief to our Nashville unhoused neighbors during the 2024 extreme heat summer season.
Office of Homeless Services
Services: The Office of Homeless Services will be coordinating outreach response and heat patrols by providing:
- Cool Rides
- Water Distribution
- Insect Repellant
- Sunscreen
- Service Provider Coordination
- Scheduled Encampment Support
Bus Passes/Cool Rides Available when Extreme Weather Response is Activated: When activated, the Office of Homeless Services will make “All day Single Use” bus passes available for nonprofits to pick up at Office of Homeless Services. Please utilize HMIS for appropriate distribution of bus passes. Email [email protected] to arrange for pickup.
The Salvation Army
- Outreach Food Services: Meal services will be provided Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Old Tent City on Anthes Drive.
- Heat Patrols: The Salvation Army will conduct daily heat patrols on extreme heat days.
Room in The Inn
- Hours and Services: Room in The Inn is open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and serves lunch. Frozen Pops and Ice Cream encourage folks to come inside and cool off.
- Getting there: #8 bus
- Other Services: Showers are available from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. People should get there at 6 a.m. to reserve a spot.
Nashville Rescue Mission
- Hours and Services: Nashville Rescue Mission is a full-service emergency shelter open 365 days a year / 24 hours a day; offering 3 meals a day, full case management, beds, clothing, showers, respite from the heat and other services.
Day services and overnight shelter are available for men, women, and families with children. Please call for any questions at 615-255-2475. - Getting there: #52B bus, 616 7th Ave. S.
- Pets: Dogs are welcome.
Community Care Fellowship
- Hours and Services: Community Care Fellowship will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and serves lunch. Frozen Pops and Ice Cream encourage folks to come inside and cool off.
- Getting there: #4 bus 511 S. 8th Street
- Other Services: Showers and Laundry are available.
City Road Chapel – Showers of Blessing
- Hours: Open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday.
- Getting there: #56 Bus 701 Gallatin Pike S.
- Services: Showers and Laundry; bus passes; food bags; day shelter; Coordinated Entry staff available from 9 a.m. to noon.
Open Table Nashville
Monday and Thursdays, 11:45 a.m.-2:15 p.m. at West End United Methodist Church (Indoor space for heat relief, snack bags, limited bus passes and cell phone charging. Clothing available on Mondays only. Resource coordinator available on Thursdays only. This is not available for anyone on the registry as there is a daycare on site.
Wednesdays, 3:00 p.m.-5 p.m. at Green Street Church (Meals provided, indoor space for heat relief, and Resource Coordinator on site. This is available for anyone on the registry.
Fridays, Outreach Team is located in the general downtown area (former Stadium Inn Camp, Korean Vets, and James Robertson Pkwy). Services include food and supply distribution which includes water, electrolyte packets, and cooling towels. Heat Patrol is also included during this supply distribution.
Shower the People*
Offers Mobile Showers and Outreach at the various locations across Nashville. Please go to the Shower the People website for more information.
- Tuesdays, 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at Trinity Community Commons
- Thursdays, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Belmont Church
- Fridays, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at City Road Chapel
- Saturdays, 9:30 a.m.-Noon at Mount Ararat Church
Nashville Public Libraries
21 locations across the city. Hours and addresses can be found here: Nashville Public Library Locations. All locations have air conditioning, restrooms, and drinking fountains, as well as computers and power outlets for charging phones and other devices. The main library has outreach opportunities including Coordinated Entry access with Office of Homeless Services staff.
