Vested Property Rights
In understanding property entitlements, it is important to recognize “vested property rights” in the land development process. "Vested rights" are claims enforceable under law and assist in defining reasonable expectations of property owners. In land use planning and development, the concept assists in fostering cooperation between the public and private sectors.
Resolution RS2014-1330 was passed by Metro Council in 2014 and establishes the requirements where landowners may exercise the rights established by the State of Tennessee’s Vested Property Rights Act of 2014.
