The Planning Department is partnering with GHP, project manager for the recovery and rebuilding efforts, and the Mayor’s Office, the Civic Design Center, key metro departments, and the community to create a vision for the future of the 2nd Avenue area. The overarching project goal is to maintain the historic character of the buildings and street while creating opportunities and a path for an even more vibrant future.
The study area focuses on 2nd Avenue while including 1st Avenue, the riverfront, and 3rd Avenue.
The team is studying future land use, urban design, mobility, open space, and environmental resiliency. The Study will guide cohesive and coordinated development/redevelopment through possible updates to the land use policy, the street plan, and changes to Nashville’s long-range general plan, NashvilleNext. The study may also result in updates to the Downtown Code.
Engagement Opportunities
Every successful plan requires careful listening, robust community engagement, and coordination with stakeholders.
The team held two listening sessions in February 2021. The first session included 2nd Avenue stakeholders, those directly affected by the bombing. The second session was open to everyone with over 100 participants. The team held a visioning session in early March with over 60 participants. Materials from these sessions are posted below.
Notification of upcoming engagement opportunities will be posted to this page and shared with partners and stakeholders.
