Water quality units filter pollutants out of stormwater, releasing the treated water to the drainage system. The structures have limited pollutant storage and require frequent maintenance.
Water Quality Units Flow Graphic
Graphic showing how a water quality unit works. Stormwater flows in to the underground unit through the storm drain pipes. Pollutants such as trash, oils, and sediments are filtered out and stay in the device. Clean water flows through the unit and into the storm water system. There is an overflow structure near the top of the unit. When not maintained, untreated water and pollutants over flow into the storm water system.
