Drinking Water and Service Line and Meter Notice
November 19, 2021: Reports from local plumbing supply merchants and Metro Nashville Government contracted suppliers are that corporations (curb stops) for water service lines and Meter Transceiver Units (MXU) for water meters are in low supply or not available due to national supply chain challenges.
Therefore, permittees will be required to have a Metro Water Services spec's curb stop at the time of permitting and the water service tap will only be physically made if the permittee/plumber has the curb stop on site at the time of the scheduled tap.
Metro Water Services is continuing to monitor the situation and will update notices on the webpage as status changes.
Some of the most common meter inspection items that the inspectors must check for include:
- Does the address match the meter?
- Is the frame and cover flush and secure?
- Is the MXU mounted in the lid?
- Does the box meet grading guidelines?
- Is the base of the meter a minimum of 18” and maximum 32”?
- Is the box free of sealing issues/separations/chips/breaks?
- Is the brick under meter at least 1” tall?
- Is the box structurally sound and square?
- Are the arrows in the right direction?
- Is the box clear of mud and debris (is the inspector able to see bottom of box)?
- Is the meter number visible and the cap/lid present?
- Is the meter centered in the box?
- Is there a permanent address on the unit?
- Are the number 1 & 2 shut offs present and upright?
