The mission of the Nashville Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office – Fire Investigation Division is to proudly protect the lives and property of the citizens of Nashville through specialized fire origin and cause investigations. We strive to identify and apprehend those persons involved in the crime of arson. We also strive to identify any defective products that may create a fire hazard to our citizens.
This division responds in the event of incendiary fires, multiple alarm fires, fire deaths, bombings, and criminal or terrorist activity associated with fires. These investigations require personnel highly trained in every aspect of fire investigation.
In many cases, investigators work with federal, state, and local agencies, such as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI), and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD).
The crime of arson is one of the most costly human-made disasters. Arson indirectly contributes to increased insurance premiums, higher medical costs, lost jobs, lost income, and the increased costs of fire services. We need your help to combat this serious crime.
