Metro Adopt-A-Stream
Want to make a difference in your local stream or waterway? The Metro Adopt-A-Stream program started in 2007 with the goal of bringing awareness to the importance of our creeks and streams, improving water quality, reducing flood risk, and enhancing safety of the community. The program provides an opportunity for local businesses civic groups, watershed associations, churches, schools, courts, etc., to work together or separately to do their part in protecting and enhancing the watershed in which they live or work.
When you adopt a stream in your neighborhood, you make a difference in your community. Adoptions are for a period of one year and require at least one stream clean up per year. Supplies and trash removal for the clean-up can be provided.
The Metro Adopt-A-Stream program is facilitated by the Cumberland River Compact and includes all adoptions within Davidson county. If you are looking to adopt a stream outside of Davidson County, check out Cumberland River Compact's Basin Adopt-A-Stream program.
Contact: Adopt-A-Stream Program Facilitator for more information or to adopt.
Keep Rainwater Flowing
Looking for a way to get involved in keeping your neighborhood clean and safe? Clean a storm drain!
Trash, leaves and grass clipping dumped in ditches and storm drains not only cause flooding, they also pollute our streams. Keeping storm drains clear of debris and trash makes our waterways cleaner and prevents localized flooding.
It's easy!
Step 1 - Prevention
- Don't blow or dump leaves or brush into the street or ditch
- Pick up trash and keep lids on trash cans
Step 2 - Clean covered storm drains
- Sweep debris off of the top of the storm drain
- Place debris in a trash bag and dispose of it properly
Tip: Checking and cleaning storm drains prior to rain can prevent water ponding in the road.
Never attempt to move the storm drain grate or retrieve material from inside the storm drain. Contact Metro Water Services at 615-862-4600 to report a storm drain concern.
