A thorough review of every facet of Metro Water Services (MWS) operations, including plant performance, distribution, treatment techniques, maintenance and safety programs, records and documentation, water quality analysis, equipment, cross connection program, and adherence to federal and state requirements and regulations, led to a perfect numerical score of 100 percent, earning 599 out of a possible 599 points.
The unannounced on-site audit by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s (TDEC) Division of Water Resources is an important component of the Safe Drinking Water Act Public Water System Supervision Program and occurs at least every two years. Three Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) employees spent four days at Metro Water Services (MWS) facilities inspecting all aspects of operations and reporting in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Sanitary Survey Manual.
“The perfect score achieved by Metro Water Services is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our Metro Water Services employees,” said Mayor John Cooper. “Observed during all aspects of operations, Metro Water Services staff demonstrated keen attention to detail to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. This achievement sets the standard for the level of public service to which we all aspire throughout Metro Government.”
