A Task Force, established by the mayor's office, held regular meetings that included the perspectives of those with lived experience of homelessness, ensuring safety remained the top priority. Following thorough deliberation and collaboration, the city will proceed with the removal of hazardous structures under the Silliman Evans Bridge.
In collaboration with local partners, a non-profit organization met some immediate needs through fundraising efforts, while a resource fair was also organized to connect unhoused individuals living in the area with essential services.
The Office of Homeless Services is committed to hosting monthly resources fairs in the area to ensure access to resources and housing opportunities. Additionally, the health department conducted a comprehensive assessment of both the individuals residing there and the surrounding area to prioritize health and safety.
Official notices were distributed to the residents of these structures in early September and continued through October 15, 2024. We also want to acknowledge the importance of using trauma informed practices as we address the needs of the people. We strongly encourage all concerned parties and media to avoid video and pictures of the people during this challenging time.
