The mission statement of the Department also recognizes our responsibility to preserve and protect the region's natural resources.
Metro Parks Community Centers include the latest aerobic and strengthening equipment, gymnasiums, indoor walking/running tracks, dance/exercise studios, arts and crafts rooms, multi-use meeting spaces and game rooms. Program offerings at these Centers reflect the diverse interests of the surrounding community. Activities are offered for all ages and abilities and include group fitness classes, youth and adult sports, dance classes, senior recreational/social programs, art classes, aquatics programs, free play, and youth out-of-school programs.
The Planning & Facilities Development Division is responsible for managing the planning, design and construction of parks and park facilities throughout the Metro Parks system. Major planning and construction projects are publicly listed along with project updates.
Some park properties are managed as natural areas to provide wildlife habitat, nesting sites for birds and other animals, and diversity of plant communities. This management strategy contributes to water quality and erosion control and these natural areas are ideal locations for the Department's popular environmental education programs,
