Topic: The complicated journey of Black and White Women to Gaining the Vote
Black women organized and worked to uplift their race in the early twentieth century. For many of them that meant continuing the fight for freedom and full citizenship, including the right to vote. Yet, the movement that eventually won women the vote has long been considered a white woman’s movement. Historian Linda Wynn will discuss the intersection of race and gender in the Women's Suffrage Movement, and AAHGS Nashville’s Karen Edwards will highlight the role of black suffragette Frankie Pierce in our city and state.
To attend the virtual presentation please email [email protected] by Thursday, September 6.
