Journey into Middle Tennessee’s Astonishing Ancient Marine Past!
Presented by Vanderbilt University Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Vulcan Materials Company, Friends of Fort Negley Park and Metro Parks
Nashville was once covered by a shallow sea teaming with marine life. For millions of years sea creatures lived and died and their remains settled on the sea floor and eventually calcified into the limestone bedrock that is the foundation below all of Middle Tennessee. This limestone even makes up St. Cloud Hill where, during the Civil War, stone was quarried and Fort Negley’s walls were built.
Vanderbilt University Earth and Environmental students and Fort Negley Park Volunteers will lead hands on activities. Join us and...
