Metro Parks announced today that Bellevue Park will be closed for the next few months for construction of the parks’ Red Caboose Playground. The park will be closed to the general public beginning today, Monday, February 25 and reopen June 1, 2019.
The new playground will include a three story structure for 5 to 12 year olds, a play area for 2 to 5 year olds, swings, log and rope climb equipment, a zero entry accessible spinner, and new benches. The entire play area will be fenced and some sidewalks will be rebuilt to ensure ADA access.
Metro General Services is also beginning construction on the new Fire Hall next door, which is necessitating the Red Caboose be moved. The caboose, an actual train car, is scheduled to move at some point in March. The caboose’s new location in the park will put the iconic name sake front and center
In the next few months, area residents will help build the playground, landscape the park, and paint ensuring the playground will continue to be an iconic part of Nashville, and a symbol of the impact of volunteerism and community partnerships.
