Centennial Art Center kicks off the holiday season with its Annual Student and Staff Holiday Exhibit and Sale, on display November 17 - December 21, 2023. During this season Centennial Art Center dresses itself in holiday cheer and unwraps a beautiful display of artwork and handcrafted gifts created by its talented students and staff.
The exhibit opens with a festive reception Friday, November 17, 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. featuring art, live music, and refreshments. Gallery visitors will find a large array of unique handmade gift options including pottery, sculpture, jewelry, paintings, handmade cards, and more for the hard-to-buy-for people on their holiday shopping list. Centennial Art Center Director, Joshua Wagner, says, “This is one of my favorite events at the Art Center each year. On the opening night of the exhibit, the gallery and studio spaces are bursting with energy and excitement as we wrap up another year of creativity and community building. When the students from our various classes are gathered together in one space, it really highlights the broad impact the Metro Parks Visual Arts Program has on the Nashville community.”
In this annual exhibit, Art Center students and staff display artwork created in classes offered through the Metro Parks’ Visual Arts Program (MPVA). Classes and workshops such as drawing, painting, printmaking, pottery and sculpture are enjoyed by students of all levels, from beginning to advanced. Artwork from Metro Parks disABILITIES and MPVA's Youth and Inclusive pottery programs will also be on display featuring submissions from all ages, levels, and abilities. MPVA boasts a talented roster of Visual Arts Instructors from the community. These teaching artists will showcase their artwork alongside their students. The exhibit will consist of a large range of artwork—including several prominent painters and potters that have been connected to the arts community in Nashville for years.
Centennial Art Center offers many weekly classes and workshops. Class registration for the 2024 Winter/Spring Session will begin online at 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23 (remember to stay up late on Monday night; registration begins at midnight!). Classes begin the week of February 5, 2024. A new 2024 Winter/Spring Adult Visual Arts Schedule will be available online by mid-December.
This annual exhibit also serves as a fundraiser for the Metro Parks Visual Arts Division through its friend's group, Creative Parks Nashville, a 501c3 non-profit organization that supports Metro Parks Visual, Music and Theatre Divisions. A portion of the sales directly benefit visual arts programming for the community.
Centennial Art Center Gallery is free and open to the public. The Annual Student and Staff Holiday Exhibit and Sale is open November 17-December 21, 2023. Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday, 9: 00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
