The Counseling Unit provides services to law enforcement employees and their immediate families. These services are confidential and free of charge. Types of counseling services offered include: individual, couples, family, groups, crisis management, education, training, and mental health response for major disasters in the community.
Experts recognize that when trauma occurs, the entire family system is affected. Therefore, critical incident interventions are available to the employee and their immediate family members. Counseling is also available for a variety of issues, including: marriage, family, and relationship challenges, children and adolescents, acute or chronic stress, depression, grief and loss, stress, anxiety, anger, substance and behavioral addictions.
We are committed to providing these services in a culturally sensitive environment. All clients are respected regardless of their abilities, culture, race, religion, or sexual orientation. Our staff is diverse and fully licensed by the Tennessee Health Related Boards. Our counselors have additional training and expertise in crisis response and trauma-informed interventions.
Employees may access our services without going through their chain of command. Routine channels of communication or supervisor approval do not apply. You may use sick leave, annual leave, personal days or excused time for your appointments.
While a supervisor may, on occasion, mandate someone to our services, the only information we share relates to attendance and compliance with treatment. Unless mandated, all aspects of your treatment will remain strictly confidential.
If you prefer to utilize services outside of the department, we will be happy to assist you in finding a private professional with experience in working with law enforcement and their families. In such cases, any fees may be reimbursable via your individual medical benefits.
