The Metro Police Christmas Charities is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that has been serving Davidson County since 1961. Learn about the history of our program.
Families are selected based on recommendations from police officers. Metro Police officers encounter numerous disadvantaged families on a daily basis. Unfortunately, we cannot provide for them all therefore we give careful consideration when choosing the neediest families. Thrifty, bulk buying allows for large quantities of basic foods to be purchased. Each family receives 4 bushel baskets of groceries and the children receive toys. Christmas Eve morning employees of the department arrive very early to deliver the baskets. This has become a wonderful Christmas tradition for many police families.
Several benefit motorcycle rides have been held annually which have been instrumental in raising funds and toys. Several other organizations have also provided financial assistance as well as toys. Donations are also made by police employees, private citizens, small businesses and other charitable organizations.
Program Guidelines
- We do not take applications over the phone.
- We do not repeat families.
- We do not buy clothes.
- The toy program is for children 12 and under.
- Recipients must reside in Davidson County.
- The officer submitting the application will have knowledge of the genuine need of the nominated family.
