Filing a false police report is a crime per TCA § 39-16-502.
To file a police report online, you must meet the criteria:
- The incident occurred in Nashville-Davidson County
- You are 18 years of age or older
- The report does not involve a crime in-progress
- The report does not involve a domestic relationship
- The report does not involve a firearm
- The report does not involve an act of violence
- The report does not involve a known suspect
- Not an emergency (Call 911 for emergencies)
After You File a Report
After you complete the police report online you will:
- See the words “Your online police report has been submitted” showing that your police report is complete.
- Receive a confirmation email with your tracking number that the report was received. For crash reports, your T number is your complaint number.
- All cases filed online will be reviewed by the Metro Nashville Police Department.
- Upon review, if further investigation of your case is needed, you will be contacted.
- Please check your email inbox and spam folder for communications from MNPD regarding the status of your report.
- If additional requested information is not received within 5 days the report will not be approved and no additional follow up will occur.
Police Report Copies
If you need an official copy of the police report, please visit Police Department Central Records Division. Once your report is approved, please allow 5 business days for processing of your report. All reports are subject to public release per TCA § 10-7-503.

Not all incidents can be filed online. If your incident is not listed in the category selection list, call the Metro Nashville Police Department at 311 for non-emergencies. For all emergencies call 911.
