The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s Crime Laboratory is a 47,000-square-foot facility located directly above the Madison Police Precinct at 400 Myatt Drive in Madison, TN. Construction of the Crime Laboratory was completed in 2014 which established Nashville's first full-service crime lab.
On March 30, 2015, the laboratory was awarded accreditation by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board and has been successfully re-accredited at each subsequent review cycle. Accreditation in the field of forensics is granted only after thorough reviews of the laboratory's management system, technical procedures and practices that demonstrate the laboratory meets or exceeds the requirements set forth in ISO/IEC17025, FBI's Quality Assurance Standards, and supplemental requirements. In the most recent accreditation cycle conducted by the ANSI National Accreditation Board in 2022 and in the Surveillance Assessment in September 2024, the Crime Lab continued to demonstrate conformance with similar accreditation requirements. The Tenprint Unit was added as a scope extension during the most recent assessment and gained accreditation becoming one of the few accredited Tenprint Units nationwide.
The Crime Lab provides services in six primary disciplines and is staffed by 61 persons including scientists, technicians, evidence receiving staff, and administrative personnel.
- Forensic Biology DNA Unit
- Chemistry Unit
- Latent Print Unit
- Firearms and Tool Mark Unit
