- Metropolitan Nashville Police Department police officers may be employed by a business or organization that is registered with the State of Tennessee - Department of Commerce and Insurance as a Proprietary Security Organization. Businesses can register with the State and employ officers directly. Businesses can employ officers in uniform, However, Metropolitan Nashville Police Department police officers are not permitted to drive or use MNPD police vehicles when employed in this capacity.
