Additional support for the families of police department employees is provided through collaborations with the Counseling Unit. “Family Day” orientations are offered to the families of candidates prior to entering the academy and at graduation. Family Support Groups are scheduled periodically to offer a space for asking questions, voicing concerns, processing emotions, unwinding, and networking. The focus is on promoting methods of self-care and developing healthy coping skills for police families. Groups are facilitated by licensed, professionals and are confidential.
