In the first 17 days of the new year, 57 guns have been stolen from vehicles in Nashville. The total number of guns stolen this year in Davidson County is 67, which means that 85% of guns stolen so far in 2023 have been taken from automobiles.
Last year, 1,378 guns were stolen from vehicles in Nashville. More than 70% of ALL guns reported stolen in 2022 (1,952) were taken from vehicles. This is an increase from 2021 when 1,303 guns were stolen from vehicles.
Going hand in hand with vehicle burglaries is vehicle theft. A review of the first week of 2023 shows that 55% of vehicles stolen (33 of 60) were taken with keys.
Last year, 74% of the automobiles taken (2,687 of 3,622) were easy targets because the keys were left inside or made available to thieves.
Just like guns taken from vehicles, these stolen vehicles are also routinely involved in criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies.
