An outstanding, coordinated effort by Violent Crimes detectives, Canine Unit officers and MNPD Aviation led to Tuesday’s arrest of carjacking suspect Corye Stone, 18, following a pursuit that began in North Nashville.
Violent Crimes detectives were advised of two robbery calls on Charlotte Pike with the same suspect description, one for an attempted armed carjacking at the Planet Fitness and the other for an armed carjacking at the Kroger across the street. The male victim at Planet Fitness got into a physical altercation with Stone before he ran across the street and robbed a 66-year-old woman at gunpoint of her white Nissan Rogue.
The stolen Nissan was located on N 9th Street near Garfield Street. With assistance from Aviation, the Nissan was followed through Cheatham Place where Stone and a female passenger were taken into custody.
The passenger was not believed to be involved in the robbery cases and was released from the scene.
A loaded 9mm pistol, that Stone tossed from the Nissan during the pursuit, was recovered.
Stone was free on bond from two gun theft cases from this past May and July. He was charged yesterday with carjacking, attempted carjacking, felony evading arrest and not having a driver’s license. He is currently being held in lieu of $86,000 bond.
