A convicted felon who has been charged with 105 offenses in Nashville since 2007 is in custody for this morning’s rape and kidnapping of a female Amazon delivery worker who was attacked in the mailroom of an apartment building at 723 President Ronald Reagan Way.
Carl Jerome Hamilton, 34, is charged with aggravated rape, aggravated kidnapping and robbery.
The 25-year-old victim was delivering packages to the building at approximately 4 a.m. when a man, subsequently identified as Hamilton, pushed her further into the mailroom and shut the door. He demanded that she remove her clothing and sexually assaulted her. Afterward, he forced her to accompany him in her vehicle to an ATM on Murfreesboro Pike where he used her debit card to withdraw $100. He then drove her around for about an hour before eventually leaving her and her car.
Central Precinct detectives, joined by South Precinct officers and Special Victims Unit detectives, teamed together for the investigation. A review of surveillance cameras at the apartment building showed clear images of the man committing the attack. As officers were about to leave that building, that same man wearing the same clothing was seen passing by the front window. He was immediately taken into custody. The apartment building manager knew Hamilton by name as the result of his arrest at the property on March 5 and January 2 for criminal trespassing.
Hamilton was arrested for kidnapping and robbery in 2020 in relation to his assault on a 24-year-old woman on Academy Place. He was convicted on those offenses in July 2022 and received a six-year sentence.
