After a thorough forensic re-examination of the body of Larry D. Giden, 49, who was thought to have died from a gunshot wound on May 30, the Medical Examiner’s office has now determined his fatal injuries were not caused by a gunshot but rather from blunt force trauma after he was struck by a 3-wheel motorcycle on Murfreesboro Pike near E. Thompson Lane.
Officers responded to the collision at 9:15 p.m. and found Giden deceased in the roadway. The driver of the motorcycle, Frank Trice, returned to the scene to report that he thought he had struck someone. Giden was also struck by additional vehicles that did not stop. A review of surveillance video shows that Giden had withdrawn money from an ATM and began walking across Murfreesboro Pike when he was struck.
Two shell casings recovered at the scene the night of the fatal crash, near Giden, were found to be old and unrelated to this incident.
The Traffic Division’s fatal crash team, which also responded to the initial scene, will now lead the investigation.
