The Adult Sexual Assault Investigations section investigates incidents of sexual assault offenses where the victim is of adult age. Members of this section work closely with the District Attorney’s Office, The Office of Family Safety and the Sexual Assault Center. The ideal set of events is that the victim receives immediate trauma-informed care, police arrest the offender, and attorneys prosecute the case. Promoting this response requires effective partnerships and communication from all involved entities. Members also take part in a number community outreach activities and educational/awareness initiatives.
This section also includes the Internet Crimes Against Children(ICAC) and The Sex Offender Registry Units. The ICAC Unit investigates tips and complaints of online child exploitation, which most frequently include the receipt and distribution of inappropriate images of children.
The Sex Offender Registry Unit is responsible for ensuring the proper registration of sex offenders who have been ordered on the registry through a court order.
