A year of investigation into the embezzlement of funds from the Southminster Presbyterian Church’s Childcare Center has led to the indictment of its former director, Stephany Peugeot, on a charge of felony theft.
The investigation showed that Peugeot served as the church daycare director and oversaw the finances and employee payroll from June 2021 to November 2023. Suspicion concerning the daycare’s finances arose in mid to late 2023 when employee paychecks began bouncing. A painstaking investigation by MNPD Fraud Unit Detective Ryan Burger alleges that Peugeot embezzled more than $200,000 for a variety of personal expenses.
Peugeot was taken into custody on the indictment Tuesday. She is free on a $50,000 bond.
