Logan Garver, 23, is charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication/reckless conduct for the December 3 death of Austin David, 22, on I-40 East. David's body was discovered between the Donelson Pike and Stewarts Ferry Pike exits.
David's family members contacted the Crash Investigations Unit and provided information that he had been with Garver on the evening of December 2. On December 4, officers, acting on a citizen's tip, found Garver's GMC Sierra pickup truck covered with a tarp at Southpoint at Stones River Apartments on Oakwell Farms Lane. The vehicle had sustained heavy damage to the passenger's side. Evidence indicates that David was ejected from the pickup truck and was then struck by several vehicles. No witnesses or motorists remained on the scene.
Garver reportedly made statements to several people regarding the crash, including that he had fallen asleep/blacked out while driving and that when he regained consciousness, he had wrecked the pickup.
Investigators also located surveillance video of Garver and David at a club. The video shows Garver stumbling out of the business before getting into his truck.
In addition to vehicular homicide, Garver is charged with reckless endangerment, evidence tampering, leaving the scene of an accident that involves death, and failure to render aid. He is being held in lieu of $103,000 bond.
