The person killed in this morning’s single-vehicle crash off I-24 near the Harding Place exit is identified as Kevonta Lane, 19, of Nashville.
The investigation shows that Lane was traveling west on I-24 in a 2017 Infiniti Q50 when the car veered off the interstate onto the right shoulder, traveled into the grass and then into a wooded area. It went airborne for a short time before coming to a final rest in the grass behind 561 Metroplex Drive.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m., but was not reported until just after 4 a.m. Surveillance video shows a sedan pull into the parking lot of 561 Metroplex Drive just after the crash occurred. Two individuals got out and approached the Infiniti. They went back to their vehicle and then returned to the Infiniti a second time before leaving. A relative of the victim reported receiving a call at approximately 4 a.m. advising that the victim had been in a crash. She located the vehicle through a GPS app and called 911. Fatal crash investigators are attempted to identify the occupants of the vehicle who pulled up to the crash scene.
The driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. The preliminary contributing factors appear to be speed and failure to maintain the lane of travel.
