Intelligence gathering by Vehicle Crimes and TITANS (The Investigative Team Addressing Neighborhood Shootings) detectives led to Monday night’s apprehension of fugitive Tyrone Walker, 30, who has been wanted for more than a year for the August 2021 murder of Cecil Holmes Jr., 39, in an 11th Avenue South parking lot of Edgehill Homes.
Walker was indicted in April 2023 on charges of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a gun. Detectives have been working to locate him since.
Monday night, detectives developed information that Walker was riding in a gold SUV in the Edgehill area. As an MNPD helicopter crew monitored from overhead, officers successfully deployed a spike strip at the exit of a housing development at 11th Avenue South. Walker bailed from the SUV. TITANS detectives gave chase and tackled him in a field. Walker tossed a pistol with an extended magazine to the ground moments before he was apprehended.
A Criminal Court judge ordered that Walker be held without bond pending a hearing. He has prior convictions for aggravated burglary, felony theft and felony cocaine possession.
The two other men with Walker in the SUV Monday night were wanted on outstanding probation violation warrants and also arrested.
