Update: The Nissan Frontier pickup truck, which had been mostly spray painted, was recovered during the night after a Midtown Hills Precinct officer spotted it in the parking lot of the LaQuinta Inn on Sidco Drive. The truck was showing a temp tag. It was impounded. The investigation is continuing.
The continuing investigation to identify the pickup truck driver responsible for striking and critically injuring Matthew Carney, 42, the owner of Wedgewood Avenue’s Smokin Thighs restaurant, on June 19 shows that the vehicle involved is in all likelihood a 2001-2004 gray and silver Nissan Frontier with black rims.
The attached surveillance video and photo partially show the truck on June 19.
The pickup truck came from the rear of Smokin Thighs shortly before 6 p.m. at a high rate of speed. Carney was thrown off the vehicle onto the Wedgewood Avenue pavement. The truck is then believed to have turned right onto nearby Bransford Avenue.
Carney is hospitalized at Vanderbilt. Officers have not been able to interview him due to his medical condition.
Carney’s vehicle was parked in the rear of the restaurant on June 19. It was found running with the door open. It has not been determined what occurred in the rear parking lot between Carney and the unknown driver of the pickup truck.
Anyone with information about the driver and/or the vehicle is asked to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Reward money totaling more than $10,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the driver.
