Starting tomorrow, the Partners in Care program will officially be countywide as the West Precinct comes online as the final area in the staggered expansion. The co-response model pairs a Mental Health Cooperative clinician with a trained MNPD patrol officer five days a week to respond to behavioral health calls.
Since the program’s inception in June 2021, Partners in Care units have responded to more than 27,000 calls for service. Of those calls, 6,015 were related to a mental health crisis.
Additionally, 279 MNPD officers and 93 supervisors have received the extra 40 hours of crisis intervention team training.
A media availability is scheduled at the Wednesday afternoon roll call at 3 p.m. in the West Precinct Community Room. Representatives from the MNPD Office of Alternative Policing Strategies and Mental Health Cooperative will be present to discuss the impact the program has made on the community, as well as the importance of the partnership.
