Three students were arrested at East High School today after school administration conducted a random search and found two students with guns in their backpacks and a third with a gun inside his vehicle.
Two 11th graders, ages 16 and 17, tossed their backpacks as MNPS security were conducting the search. Once the backpacks were recovered, a handgun was located in each backpack, among other items.
The 16-year-old student was taken into custody and charged with juvenile handgun possession, carrying a weapon on school property, simple possession, and drug free school zone.
The 17-year-old student was also arrested and charged with juvenile handgun possession, carrying a weapon on school property, and possession of burglary tools.
Shortly after their arrests, a third handgun was recovered from inside a 12th grader’s vehicle. That 17-year-old was arrested and charged with juvenile handgun possession and carrying a weapon on school property.
