Tuesday night’s murder-suicide at an apartment complex on Cane Ridge Parkway involved a husband who fatally shot his wife multiple times before fatally shooting himself.
The murder victim is identified as Tatayana Smith, 24. Her deceased husband is identified as Theodore Smith, 37.
South Precinct officers were called to Vintage Century Farms Apartments at 8:55 p.m. on a report of arguing, screaming and gunshots being heard outside one of the units. Officers found both individuals dead when they arrived.
From the investigation thus far and witness information, detectives learned that Theodore Smith had gotten dressed to go to his job as a local hotel security guard. He asked his wife to step outside in the hallway to speak with her. Arguing was then heard. A witness was able to de-escalate the confrontation and convince Theodore Smith to briefly walk away. He then turned around, pushed the victim into a corner, unholstered a semi-automatic pistol, and shot his wife multiple times. He then walked back into the apartment, retrieved another pistol, and shot the victim several more times before killing himself.
Tatayana and Theodore Smith had no domestic violence history with the MNPD.
