The wrong way driver killed in Saturday’s 3 a.m. two-vehicle collision on I-40 West near Jefferson Street is identified as Karla Castillo-Garcia, 23, of Nashville.
The preliminary investigation shows that Castillo-Garcia was driving a 2014 Toyota Corolla east in the westbound lanes when she collided head-on with a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. She died at the scene. The 24-year-old male driver of the Ford was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
There was no evidence of drug or alcohol involvement at the scene. Toxicology testing will be conducted to determine whether impairment was a factor in this fatal crash.
