Sebastian Gourdin
Inspector, Major Crimes BranchInspector Sebastian Gourdin began his career with the Metropolitan Police Department in 2000, as a patrol officer. After his promotion to Sergeant in 2007, he was assigned to the Hermitage evening shift. With a promotion to Lieutenant in 2008, he would serve the evening shift at the South Precinct where he supervised five sergeants and oversaw the daily duties of the evening shift.
In 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Captain where he was assigned to the overnight Field Supervisor Section where he was responsible for the entire county during the overnight hours providing command level oversight to all department operations. After a brief stint in the Field Supervisors Section, he was assigned to the Youth Services Division.
In 2013, he was promoted to Commander of the Madison Precinct where he developed strong community ties between officers and the diverse neighborhoods they serve, evaluated crime data, and provided direction and resources to address important safety issues.
In 2020, he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police and assigned to the Support Services Bureau.
Inspector Gourdin holds a Bachelor of Arts from Campbell University.
He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy session 252 in Quantico, Virginia, and the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) at Boston University and staffed by instructors from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Inspector Gourdin is a member of the FBI National Academy, the Police Executive Research Forum, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
