The Edgehill and Chestnut bikeways are part of the WalknBike 2022-2024 work plan and Metro’s bikeways program. The bikeway will provide safe connections for people biking to local neighborhoods, other transportation options such as transit, and recreation opportunities. This bikeway corridor extends from Edgehill Avenue at 21st Avenue South, along Chestnut Street, and to Wharf Avenue at Lafayette Street.

NDOT has already received some comments on the current design concepts and will be engaging with the community in spring 2024 to review and share feedback as design progresses.

Two-Way Cycle Track Memo
As part of the Edgehill bikeway design and engagement process, community members have proposed a two-way protected cycletrack on one side of the street as opposed to one-way protected bike lanes on both sides of the street. The project technical team has analyzed a two-way protected cycletrack and recommends one-way protected bike lanes as a safer, more intuitive, and equally comfortable option. The memo linked below explains the technical analysis for the two-way protected cycletrack alternative.
