According to Nashville’s 2019 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory, community emissions totaled 11.25 metric tons – with roughly half derived from the transportation sector alone. One of several ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation is through vehicle electrification.
On August 16, 2022, President Joseph R. Biden signed the landmark Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) into law. The law includes $391 billion to support clean energy and address climate change. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has provided a great resource for the different available energy-related incentives, including Clean Vehicle Tax Credits, Commercial Clean Vehicle Tax Credit, and Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicle Program, and various other energy incentives beyond the transportation sector.
