Violent Crimes detectives, with assistance from MNPD Aviation and Canine Units, arrested a 16-year-old this morning shortly after a woman was carjacked on Laurel Oak Drive.
The victim left her Chevrolet Equinox running in her driveway while taking out the trash with her pistol, purse, and cash inside. When she returned to her vehicle, the teen ran up, pointed a pistol at her, and fled in her Equinox.
Using tracking technology, the vehicle was located by MNPD Aviation in North Nashville where the teenager, who initially fled on foot, was quickly apprehended by Canine Units while hiding underneath another vehicle.
A stolen Berretta pistol was recovered.
The teen has a previous vehicle theft conviction from a June 2023 arrest and had been arrested for another vehicle theft in November. He was not on probation at the time of this morning’s arrest.
He was charged in juvenile court with carjacking and evading arrest among several other charges.
