Homicide Unit detectives this morning charged Dtarious Watkins, 24, with Tuesday afternoon’s targeted murder of Malachi Rybka, 18, inside an Edgehill Homes apartment in the 1000 block of Edgehill Avenue.
The investigation shows that Watkins traveled from the Napier-Sudekum area to the Edgehill apartment, where he allegedly went inside and opened fire on Rybka. He died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. Watkins then traveled back to the Napier-Sudekum community and entered an apartment on Charles E. Davis Boulevard. Watkins was located there during the night and taken into custody. Inside that apartment, detectives recovered three pistols. Detectives also found evidence that clothing Watkins is believed to have worn earlier in the day was set on fire to destroy it.
Watkins is being held without bond pending a hearing in General Sessions Court.
Homicide detectives, Specialized Investigations Division TITANS (The Investigative Team Addressing Neighborhood Shootings) detectives and members of the community collaborated to advance this case during the night.
